Driven by community values, scientific curiosity, and a deep respect for the natural world, we are a volunteer-led group working to protect our local moana (ocean) and make marine science accessible to all. 

Our Projects:

  • Experiencing Marine Reserves

    Our Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) programme gives children and adults the chance to explore their local marine environment through snorkelling. An unforgettable way to build knowledge and appreciation for what lies beneath the surface.  EMR in Taranaki, is run in partnership with the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust. 

  • Kororā Kōrero

    A commuity monitoring programme to surveying the Kororā/Blue Penguin population, and nest boxes along the Taranaki coast. Kororā Kōrero runs partnership with Ngāti Te Whiti and Ngāti Mutunga and is focused on raising public awareness of Kororā conservation. We have a videos and educational resoureces to share.

  • Previous Marine Projects

    Over the years Ngā Motu Marine Reserve Society has been involved with many different projects. All focused on how to grow awareness and interest of our community to protect our incredible coastlines and marine life here in Taranaki. These include, Project Hotspot, Seachange and more.
